I was reminded by a reply that I should probably emphasize this: the Big Cat Public Safety Act literally has an exemption specifically for state colleges and universities. Why? Because there’s two schools with live mascots who live in habitats on campus, and their representatives absolutely would not have supported the bill if it had taken away their college’s cats.

It’s tradition for these schools to have a live mascot, so the bill that *checks notes* is meant to end unethical commercial of big cats had to ensure that they’d still be allowed to have a big cat living next to their stadiums. Luckily neither school takes their mascots to the sidelines of football games anymore, but LSU actually only just stopped that practice in 2017.

These mascot cats have consistently been part of the commercial trade in big cats, although it’s unclear if they will continue to be (even though it’s still legal for these schools to buy their next mascot). Una and Leo III came from a wildlife park in New Hampshire as young cubs, and Mike VII is ostensibly a rescue but the story of the facility he came from doesn’t quite pass the smell test.

Here’s the wild thing. Under the new law, right, most entities that want to keep big cats - like sanctuaries and zoos - have to follow certain rules regarding fencing and breeding restrictions and preventing public contact in order to be allowed to do so. But state schools? Nada. They can buy, sell, and breed without any limits. They could, quite literally, run a tiger puppy-mill or start a cub petting franchise across multiple state universities and it wouldn’t be illegal. Obviously that’s a worst case scenario that’s super unlikely, but it goes to show just how odd it is that these entities have a totally unrestricted exemption. Credible zoological facilities and sanctuaries have to comply with much stricter regulations to prove they’re not exploiting the cats in their care, but for the sake of football, state colleges and universities can do whatever they want!! (sigh). It’s amazing how really specific political interests, such as the culture around football mascots, can result in carve-outs in even bills promoted specifically to create consistent regulations for animal welfare.

So, I've been doing some thinking. This could either be a meaningless little ramble that no one will care about, or something seen as really dangerous and putting a target on my back.

So, what if we, those most weary of the far right created an international group of activists in light of the US election? See, the thing is that Donald Trump and Elon Musk are very dangerous, but they are also very incompetent and could lead the government down a path that weakens it. It could create a very unique opportunity to address the far right problem and the US Imperialist system itself in one go. Or maybe I'm being overly ambitious.

This group I have in mind would have several purposes, such as keeping communities safe and protecting people from the harm the far right would do in the name of winning the election. Or, most importantly of all, connecting activists from all over the world and allowing us to dismantle the system as a concrete and united movement. Maybe it's just me being naive and hopeful, but maybe it's also something we've all wanted deep down but been too afraid to initialise? If so, maybe this is a sign to really stand up and start trying to make those connections.

sooo im quitting, thank you all for everything throughout these past 2 years and roll credits!

kidding, that isn’t all i have to say but thats just the gist of it and i dont wanna crowd up the feed too much.

im not quitting due to lack of motivation, peer pressure from people ik irl or any hate whatsoever. im quitting simply because i simply want to focus on my studies, and its been difficult recently trying to achieve a balance of somewhat consistent updates and high grades.

i still love writing, i actually dream of being an author, and probably still will. my “quitting” is sorta like an indefinite hiatus, i may post something when i have the time but it doesn’t mean ill be coming back for sure.

i’ll probably still be online, just not as often or active in posting (like i ever was 💀) so maybe if u are a fellow writer, i’ll be seen liking ur works! i might be more active on wattpad however, just reposting the stuff i have on here though when i find the time.

as for my inbox, it will most likely be closed since i don’t believe i won’t have any time to answer anything. i am so sorry that i wont be able to contribute my voice about others in gaza and will do my best to reblog anything i see in my feed when i do come back online.

It’s never a good idea to source online especially through dating apps like Lex.

A common scam is to give you their cash app, asking you to purchase an item you’re looking for, then they will come and deliver for free.

This sets you up to lose your money and it is hard to dispute with companies like cash app due to the often illegal circumstances that got you in this scenario.

Don’t do it. Sometikes there will be a wing person or a second account who is the same or is working with the scam artist. They will make a story very believable. This is a form of social engineering. No matter how good it sounds, don’t do it.
